How to make a feed pellet machine

Under the background of rapid development of modern breeding industry, feed pellet machine has become a key equipment to improve feed utilization and ensure the healthy growth of animals. Although there are many kinds of finished equipment on the market, for some users with mechanical processing capabilities, making a feed pellet machine suitable for their own breeding needs can not only save costs, but also flexibly adjust parameters to meet different formulation requirements. This article will explain in detail how to make a practical feed pellet machine from the aspects of structural design, core component selection, assembly process, etc.

Clarify the working principle of the feed pellet machine

Before making it, you must fully understand the basic working principle of the feed pellet machine. Its core mechanism is to press the powdered raw material through the pressing wheel and squeeze it out of the die hole to form pellets. In this process, it is necessary to comprehensively control the temperature, pressure, die aperture and feed speed to ensure uniform pellet forming and stable mechanical operation.

At present, the more common structural forms are flat mode and ring mode. In the homemade scheme, the flat mode structure is relatively simple and more suitable for small family breeding or individual processing households.

Design structure diagram and material preparation

Before making a feed pellet machine, you first need to draw a basic structure diagram, including the following key modules:

Main frame

Flat die pressure wheel assembly

Spindle drive system

Feeding and discharging device

Motor or diesel power system

The bracket structure is recommended to use Q235 carbon steel with a thickness of 6mm or more to ensure structural strength. The mold material is recommended to use quenched and tempered alloy steel such as 42CrMo, which has excellent wear resistance after heat treatment. The pressure wheel must ensure a hardness of HRC50 or above, and strictly control the radial runout within 0.05mm to ensure extrusion uniformity.

Selection and processing of core components

Flat die

The flat die is the core of the feed pellet machine, and its aperture determines the particle diameter. The common aperture is 2.5mm~6mm, which needs to be adjusted according to the breeding object (such as chicken, pig, fish). The number of die holes should be evenly arranged and processed by CNC drilling machine to ensure consistency.

Pressing wheel

The pressing wheel must fit tightly with the flat die. Generally, 2~3 pressing wheels are configured, and the clamping device is connected through the bearing. The surface of the pressing wheel needs to have grooves to improve feeding efficiency, and the material also needs to be wear-resistant.

Spindle and reduction transmission

The spindle can use solid round steel with a diameter of not less than 30mm, which is lathe-processed and dynamically balanced, and transmits power with a chain or gear reduction system. The transmission system should have a tensioning device to avoid slipping and overloading.

Motor installation and power matching

The power system can choose a single-phase or three-phase motor, and the power is determined according to the production capacity. For example, when producing 300 kg of feed per day, it is recommended to use a motor of more than 7.5kW and the speed is controlled within 1400rpm. If the power supply is unstable, a diesel engine can also be selected as a power source, but a clutch and shock absorber device must be installed additionally.

The motor is connected to the spindle through a pulley or coupling to ensure smooth operation. All electrical parts should be equipped with thermal protectors and emergency stop devices to ensure safe operation.

Assembly and debugging

During assembly, the coaxiality of each axis must be strictly guaranteed, and the gap between the die wheels must be controlled within the range of 0.1-0.3mm to avoid abnormal wear or jamming. After assembly, a no-load test must be performed, focusing on monitoring the operating noise, temperature rise and vibration to ensure smooth operation of the equipment.

Then a small amount of feed sample is put into processing, the pellet forming situation is observed, and the die wheel pressure and feeding speed are gradually adjusted until the expected effect is achieved.

Maintenance and upgrade suggestions

Although the initial investment of the homemade feed pellet machine is low, daily maintenance cannot be ignored. The wear condition of the pressing wheel and the die should be checked regularly, the bearing parts should be lubricated, and the residual materials should be cleaned. It is recommended to reserve space for structural upgrades, such as adding a mixer, cooling fan or automatic feeding device in the future.

In addition, as the production scale expands, it can be optimized to a continuous production system according to the prototype to improve efficiency and automation level.

Conclusion

It is not an easy project to make a homemade feed pellet machine, but as long as you have a certain mechanical processing ability and hands-on experience, combined with scientific design and precision assembly, you can make a practical device that meets actual needs. For individual users who want to control feed costs and improve breeding efficiency, this is undoubtedly a cost-effective solution.
